A number of Drivers from Mark Thompson Transport attended a Driver First Assist Training course on Saturday 24th February 2018. This is a voluntary course in which Drivers can participate in order to become members of the Driver First Assist (DFA) initiative.
Driver First Assist is a not-for-profit organisation that has been created in partnership with the Police, Ambulance and Fire and Rescue Services. The initiative is designed to train drivers to provide lifesaving first aid and manage the scene at a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) before the emergency services arrive.
The first few minutes after an incident are essential and according the DFA 50% of RTC deaths occur before the emergency services arrive, with a large number of these caused by a blocked airway. The DFA aims to prevent road side deaths where a quick response is essential.
With first aid training and the knowledge of how to manage the scene, drivers can make a big difference across the UK by being able to respond at the most crucial time.
Mark Thompson Transport have been working with the DFA for a number of years now. In 2015 one of our Drivers and DFA members, Nigel Abbott, became the first DFA member to receive a commendation from the police in recognition of his assistance at the scene of a RTC, having found himself one of the first at the scene of a serious collision.
