Valentina is a new HR Apprentice for Kinaxia, based at David Hathaway Transport. She joined the team in December 2019. Valentina tells us more about life as a HR Apprentice below…
What attracted you to start an apprenticeship with Kinaxia?
I was looking for a challenge and was trying to have a better work-life balance. In Italy, I studied to be a sociologist and have achieved my CIPD Level 3 (Human Resources Practice) here in the UK. So, I was looking for something that would match with my studies and decided to apply for the apprenticeship to help to achieve this goal.
What does your typical day consist of?
A typical day for me is always very busy. When I arrive in the morning, I have a little briefing with Kim (Account Supervisor) to set our tasks for the day and check my emails to see if there are any queries to solve. If there are no HR duties for the day, I will usually help Kim with accounting tasks.
What is the best piece of advice have you been given?
The best piece of advice I have been given is to not worry as time and practice will help me. I am the kind of person that likes to do everything to the best of my ability but can take on too much. After a month I feel more confident and will continue to improve my skills, especially my HR ones.
What do you like best about your apprenticeship?
The best thing about my apprenticeship is the people. Everyone is so supportive and always ready to help me with my daily duties. So far, I really love working at David Hathaway and for the Kinaxia Group and am happy to give my contribution. The highlight of my time at Kinaxia so far is when I discovered that I was going to be covering the HR duties as well. It is important for me that my co-workers trust be to give me this role. I am so honoured.
