Salary: £34,010.88 per annum

Fresh Freight Group, part of the Kinaxia Group, are recruiting a Transport Shift Manager to join their team at their site in Washington. The ideal candidate will report into our Group Operations manager, and work as part of a small team of shift managers to ensure the smooth running of the 24/7 operations. 

  • Monday to Friday (10 hour shifts) + 1 in 4 weekend cover.

Key responsibilities for the Shift Manager:

  • Jointly manage a large fleet of vehicles in a fast-paced environment.
  • Operational transport compliance / Maintenance / defect reports and Infringements are managed daily.
  • Performance management, absence management, Incident Management, Disciplinary processes, and Recruitment of new drivers.
  • Full utilisation of IT systems and vehicles to ensure accurate and appropriate allocation of driver/vehicle/loads/back loads and trailers and communicate plans to external and internal customers to improve both the efficiency of the department and the Group.
  • Ensure sufficient staffing levels are always in place, including agency staff, to meet/exceed customer requirements.
  • Manage driver hours on a daily / weekly basis and auditing and updating hours against the relevant systems to guarantee they are compliant to all regulations.
  • Work as part of a team and participate in cross training initiatives to provide effective cover in a colleague’s absence.
  • Identify, communicate, and drive any continuous improvements to continually develop the operation of the business.
  • Operate a high standard of general housekeeping and work in a safe manner complying with all health and safety regulations in order to maintain a clean, safe and tidy working environment.
  • Maintain clear communication with other colleagues and Drivers to ensure customer KPI’s and targets are achieved and maintained, to include Driver debriefs, manifest review and updates to any amendment /notes.

 

 

 

Key skills/competencies required to be a Transport Operator:

  • Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, Road Transport Regulations
  • Commercial awareness
  • Working knowledge of transport operation systems
  • Geography
  • Health and Safety Regulations
  • GCSE’s at grade A-C in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) 
  • Logistics qualification / Transport Manager CPC would be desirable
  • Critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Organisation and time management
  • Effective communication skills at all levels both written and verbal
  • Collaboration with other departments and companies within the Group
  • Numeracy
  • IT and computer literate
  • Relevant transport experience
  • Analysing and solving logistics problems
  • Experience of transport operation systems
