AKW, as a market leader, are constantly striving to improve services and to reduce their impact on the environment. Choosing fleets that lower vehicle emissions and supplying team members with electric vehicles are just some of the ways AKW are making a difference. Partnering with Shred-It has been the latest step for sustainability.
Shred-It is a world-leader in sustainable information security. The company has recently been awarded ‘Super brand status’ for their quality and reliability. Shred-It ensures AKW is carefully handling sensitive information’ via paper shredding and hard drive destruction.
AKW have been working in collaboration with Shred-It for over 6 months. The Super brand plan was chosen ‘after learning how substantially they could improve (their) carbon footprint’, according to Managing Director, Rebecca Davies.
Of the 13 million tonnes of paper and cardboard used each year, an impressive 70% is recycled. With the ability to be recycled up to 7 times before losing its quality, paper is a valuable material when properly cleaned and processed. Shred-It ensures efficiency from every sheet of paper, sending stained sheets to their reclamation unit, which is cleansed then sorted for processing.
Not all paper is recycled and reused as fresh sheets, most can be composted to be used in mulch; doing this can drastically reduce the environmental impact with reliable garden use. Newspaper is a great compost resource, providing an abundance of carbon to help balance compost. Once your paper has been shredded, processed and transformed into a useful substance, confirmation will be sent stating positive environmental impacts.
As for AKW, the results speak for themselves, for each ton of paper recycled by Shred-It, three cubic yards of landfill space is saved. AKW have saved approx. 19 trees by using recycled shredded paper within a matter of months, moving forward, AKW can effectively dispose of sensitive information and files, whilst promoting positive environmental change.
